Chris by Christopher W. Bowron "Onward to battle." Tony cried as he led the brave and fearless knights into battle against the evil followers of Chad. Tony and the knights were fighting to protect their brilliant king, Chris. The battle was taking place in the beautiful kingdom of Chris. It was a land of rolling green hills and many types of wildlife. Chris, himself was a generous and thoughtful king. He was known throughout the lands for his philosophies. The evil followers of Chad were a neighboring group of people. They were uncivilized and were trying desperately to take over the kingdom, but alas this battle would not be a victory for them. Although it was a long battle, few of Chris' men were hurt. After three days of fighting the evil followers of Chad were expelled from the kingdom, at least for a few days. The knights of Chris returned home safely. "I must rid myself of these evil-doers." Chris thought. "Tomorrow I will call a meeting with my bravest knights and devise a plan." With that the king fell asleep. The next morning a meeting was called of the three most courageous knights. Aaron, Tony, and Jimbo Bob Fred George Herb Smith III - who we refer to as "Al"- were seated around the triangular table. Aaron was a very loyal knight. Although it would seem that he would be a very good knight because he was not very athletic, Aaron was one Chris' best knights. Tony was a big and powerful knight. Few dared to even speak to him because he was so intimidating - or maybe it was because of his breath. Al was extremely courageous-not very bright, but very courageous. Chris was the first to speak. He said "We are faced with a dilemma. The followers of Chad must be gotten rid of for good. Any suggestions?" No one spoke. Chris grew irate. "You stupid good for nothing dumb idiotic geeks have absolutely no ideas! Leave this room! I'll get rid of them myself!" With that the knights were banished from the kingdom. That afternoon Chris set out to find the evil followers of Chad's camp. Once there Chris met with the evil followers of Chad's leader, Chad. Chris proposed an idea, "Chad, It seems to me you want my kingdom, so I have an idea. You and I will compete in a battle of wits. The winner will gain or keep my kingdom, The loser will have to sit in the corner with a dunce cap on. Does this sound fair?" Chad agreed to his proposition. Chad and Chris thought for a minute, trying to decide the ultimate battle of wits. Then Chad found the answer-Tic Tac Toe. The Tic Tac Toe board was drawn in the sand. Chris went first he placed an "O" in the middle square. Chad then placed an "X" in the bottom corner. Chris placed another "O" underneath his first. Chad placed an "X" above the first "O". (see Fig. 1a) The game continued. It was a draw.
Chris and Chad continued playing Tic Tac Toe for three days and three hours nonstop without a winner. Finally in the last game it was Chris' turn to go first. He first , placed an "O" in the middle circle. Chad then placed an "X" underneath. Chris put an "O" to the right of the "X". Chad placed his "X" in the top left-hand corner. Chris then placed his "O" to the right of the first "O". Chad said "Uh oh." and placed an "X" to the left of the first "O". Chris placed his winning "O"in the top right-hand corner.(see fig. 1b)
Chad yelled. He grabbed his sword. Just as he stood up there was a sound from behind him...the sound of an arrow leaving a bow. Chad screamed in pain as the arrow ripped through his flesh. Aaron stepped up from behind a bush to greet his king. Tony and Al soon followed. The evil followers of Chad ran. The kingdom was safe once again... and they all lived happily ever after. |
